This book offers up a visually appealing montage of road life, an alternate lifestyle of living in a van, camper, or other type of motorized vehicle while traveling to many remote locations throughout the world. "Alternate-living" expert Santabarbara covers a broad range of lifestyles, vehicles, and people, from self-built vehicles on up to luxurious manufactured homes, from single people to families with children and pets. The guide is full of personal stories, tips, advice, lists of essential items, memorable destinations, and detailed photographs for readers interested in exploring this lifestyle for themselves. It also includes a directory of useful websites for those who want additional resources. More inspirational than practical guide, this book is effusive with praise for the positive aspects of vehicular living. However, it touches only lightly on any negative downsides, and it lacks information on the hard-core practicalities and skills required to successfully implement life on the open road. VERDICT An optional purchase for libraries with extensive travel or lifestyle collections, or where there is demand.--Marjorie Mann
